07 12 月 Kneeling Archer Warrior
Kneeling archer warrior figurine, wearing a battle robe, armor, the left side of the head tie a hair bun, left leg crouching, right knee on the ground, hands on the right side of the body for holding a bow and crossbow waiting to be fired. The figurine of a kneeling warrior is more detailed than the usual terracotta figurines, with vivid expressions, hair buns, armor, and footwear, and the original painting of the relics is in excellent condition, which truly represents the Qin army in battle. It is one of the best preserved terracotta warriors and horses.
They crouched and knelt at a height of about 1.2 meters, with their heads in buns, facing forward and gazing slightly to the right front. They are dressed in battle robes and outer armor, with their upper body straight and left shoulder slightly tilted forward. The lower body is in a half-squatting, half-kneeling position, with the right knee bent and the knee on the ground, and the right foot, which is stirring on the square-jawed, pointed to the ground, with the palm of the foot erected. The left foot lands smoothly and the left leg is supported with the knee facing upward in a semi-squatting position. The figurine’s left arm is bent, the lower arm is placed across the chest, and the elbow is under the left knee. The left hand has a tiger’s mouth facing right, with the palm slightly downward, as if holding a bow. The right arm of the figurine is hanging down and the lower arm is slightly extended forward. The thumb of the right hand is up and the four fingers are curved in a fist, with the palm hollow, in the gesture of holding a crossbow. The gesture of the kneeling figurine shows the action of a single soldier holding a bow and crossbow, and the shape is accurate and vivid.
Kneeling archer warrior figurines of the upper body straight upright, the lower right knee, right toe and left foot against the ground, three fulcrums in an isosceles triangle supporting the upper body, the center of gravity in the lower, enhanced stability. When shooting, the left leg squatting and flexing, the right knee kneeling, stable center of gravity, easy to aim, easy to shoot at the target. At the same time, kneeling when shooting their side of the target is small, not easy to be found by the enemy, is a more ideal shooting position for ambush or defense.
Each of these kneeling figurines is vividly sculpted. The hair bun is cleverly shaped on the left side of the head, unlike the warriors in the Qin Terracotta Warrior Pit, which is on the right side, achieving a visually balanced effect. The hair of the terracotta warriors is sculpted meticulously, and the hair is clearly visible. The armor is decorated in accordance with the requirements of actual combat, with the waist as the boundary, above the waist, the top piece of armor presses the bottom piece, below the waist is the bottom piece presses the top piece; the chest armor is stacked from the middle to both sides in turn, the back armor is the opposite; the shoulder armor presents the bottom piece presses the top piece. This embellishment armor, mainly to facilitate the soldier bending, turning and raising arms, can move freely. Looking at the back, the stitches on the sole of the right foot are also realistically and vividly carved, the heel and toe end, the stitches are fine and the palm part is slightly sparse, exactly the same as the stitches on the sole of a cloth shoe in modern life. It reflects an extremely strict spirit of realism, allowing future generations of viewers to feel a very strong sense of life from the warriors of the Qin Dynasty.
The terracotta figurines excavated from the Terracotta Warriors and Horses pits were all damaged to varying degrees, except for the kneeling figurine. How was it so well preserved? This is due to its low profile. Firstly, the terracotta pits were all underground tunnel-style civil engineering structures, so when the roof collapsed and the earth and wood fell, the tall standing figurines took the brunt of the damage, while the low-profile kneeling figurines suffered less damage. Secondly, the kneeling figurines are in a squat kneeling posture, with the right knee, right foot and left foot supporting the upper body in an isosceles triangle, with the center of gravity underneath, enhancing stability and making them less likely to fall over and break compared to the standing figurines on two feet. Therefore, after two thousand years of experience, it is still intact.
The terracotta warriors in Pit No. 2 are known as the essence of the terracotta warriors and the masterpiece of ancient Chinese sculpture. Look at him kneeling on his right knee, his left leg squatting and bending, his eyes gleaming in front of him, the cold face and the aggressive spirit of holding a bow as if Qin Shi Huang is the best interpretation of the achievement of unification of ancient China.
